Replace Beko Washing Machine Door Seal

Today we have had a Beko washing machine model number WMB71442W that needed a new door seal as the old one was badly stained and covered in mould.
There are 2 main reasons that this mould build up has formed on this seal and the 2 main ones are,
1. Improper cleaning – If the seal was not regularly cleaned, then dust, dirt, and other debris can accumulate on it and create a perfect environment for mould to flourish, a quick wipe after each wash is all it takes to keep the seal looking good for years.
2. Poor ventilation this can lead to stagnant air which can cause mould to form you should leave the washing machine door slightly open when the machine is not in use to let air circulate and dry the insides of the seal out.

Ok the first thing we need to do is disconnect the machine from the electric supply as we will be working inside the machine.
We remove the 2 screws that hold the lid on the washer and push the lid backwards so it unclips from the lugs it locates on and we can now remove the lid to get access to the seal retaining spring, there are 2 retaining springs 1 at the very front and 1 inside the machine.

Now we can remove the retaining spring that is located at the very front of the machine, we gently prise this away with a screwdriver and then pull it off the front of the seal.
Now we just get our fingers between the seal and the drum and pull the door seal away and out of the machine, most times the inner spring will come away with it, but if it doesn’t it will still be on the outer tub and we need to get this off, its easy enough to just prise it out with a screw driver, we will need both of these springs when we fit the new door seal.

Once we have both springs and the seal off we give the machine a clean where the seal has been as its very dirty, we also clean the springs as well before we replace the new seal.
We use washing up liquid to help lubricate the new seal this makes it very easy to put back on, we also use a bit on the springs to help us replace these.

Replacing the new door seal is just a reversal of the steps we took to remove the seal.
1, Push the seal through and gently feed it around the outer tub this will be made easier because we put washing up liquid on the edge of the door seal, once the seal is on move it around so the holes drain holes line up at the bottom so any water left in the seal after a wash can easily run into the machine.

2 Next its time to replace the spring that came off, again this can be a fiddly job but is made easy with the washing up liquid we put on it.

3, Now we just need to replace the front spring and again this is just a reversal of the removal making sure that its in the same place as where we took it off from otherwise it might not sit correctly and could easily be pulled off when removing the clothes after a wash. Now the machine just needs a water test to make sure there are no leaks.
Identifying the correct seal you will need the model number of your appliance, but on some of these Beko seals the part number is stamped on the seal itself making easy identification.

As you can see the seal was in very bad condition mouldy and also covered in nasty un dissolved powder and liquid and limescale , this could also cause machines to smell.
