What Are Carbon Brushes?

Carbon brushes are small, spring-loaded blocks of carbon that conduct electricity to the motor’s spinning part (the armature). In many Beko washing machines, they’re essential for powering the motor that turns the drum during washing and spinning.

Over time, these brushes naturally wear down due to friction—and once they’re too short, your machine may stop working properly.

Signs Your Carbon Brushes Might Be Worn

If your Beko washing machine is showing any of these symptoms, worn carbon brushes could be the culprit:

  • The drum doesn’t turn, or turns only occasionally

  • The machine fills with water but doesn’t agitate or spin

  • You see sparks coming from the motor area

  • It tries to spin but never reaches full speed

Why Do Carbon Brushes Wear Out?

Carbon brushes are designed to wear down gradually to protect the motor’s commutator from damage. As they wear shorter, they lose contact with the motor, which causes the motor to fail. This is a common and expected maintenance issue over the life of the machine.

How to Replace Beko Carbon Brushes (Step-by-Step)

  1. Unplug the appliance from the mains—safety first.

  2. Access the motor by removing the back panel and drive belt. Unscrew and unplug the motor.

  3. Remove old brushes by unscrewing them. Note their position and angle—they must be fitted the same way.

  4. Fit the new brushes, ensuring they move freely and contact the motor properly.

  5. Reassemble the motor, reconnect the wiring and belt, then test the machine.

If the drum now spins smoothly and consistently, you’ve likely solved the problem.

Choosing the Right Carbon Brushes

  • Compare the connector style and mount type
